Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Romans 4:20-21
I used to volunteer at a barn with horses where therapeutic riding was one of the main activities. Once some of the horses were out in their pastures, they were quite content and didn’t want to be brought back in. There was one particular pony that took all kinds of persuading to get her to return after being left out by mistake. You could say she had a bit of a mental roadblock that we needed to work around.
She fit in perfectly with many of those being helped there. There were some with physical disabilities, but even more that had been through some very difficult situations, leading to behavioral and/or emotional problems.
When a new rider arrived, we could feel the distrust, fear, low self-esteem, and insecurity. Sometimes it showed itself in anger, loudness, timidity, or being in complete shut-down mode. It was the horses’ jobs to break through those negative emotions, letting the rider know how strong and capable they were. We could’ve never told them in words; they needed to see the vital truth by leading those horses themselves. It was a beautiful thing to watch those horses teaching to trust again. They taught the children how to act in order to get the right reactions.
The character trait for today is Persuasiveness-guiding vital truths around another’s mental roadblocks (definition from characterfirst.com).
Something that each one of us struggles with is mental roadblocks. Maybe we’ve been told we weren’t good enough, we weren’t attractive enough, or we weren’t smart enough. Do we have any negative thoughts from how we were raised that are stopping us from moving forward?
There are so many untruths that could be stuck in our brains preventing us from knowing the greatness that’s inside us. We need a horse in our lives! Our horse is faith. There are an unbelievable amount of promises God has given us that are vital truths which could change our way of thinking.
I challenge you to Google “God’s promises in the Bible” to help you realize the untruths that have become your roadblock, while replacing them with good, awesome, and life changing vital truths He provides. Let Him persuade you to right beliefs and thinking today!
