The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3
The phone constantly ringing is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. It drives me nuts! I’ve learned to not get too excited about running to grab the phone because most of the time I don’t even answer it. I get so many calls from people that I don’t know, and it’s so often a machine! I figure, if it wasn’t important enough for a message to be left, it wasn’t important enough for me to answer.
For a while, my phone was ringing so much that I would cringe with the first ring. I got a brilliant idea! I would simply get a new telephone with a different ringtone. I figured that I like animals, so I’d get one that would make animal noises instead of ringing. At first, it did keep me in a better mood because we’d laugh as we’d work our way through the animal calls. You should’ve seen guests jump when they were visiting and the phone rang. I’d get such a kick out of it!
When it was set up for the bear, it was perfect. It was already growling, so I didn’t have to when the phone rang! The turkey gobbling probably lasted the longest, but really, how many times can a turkey gobble in the house? The mountain lion was just pure entertainment as the hubby went into defense mode every time it made its frightening sound. Well, after that phone wore out, we went back to a regular one. I just try not to let my life revolve around the phone. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.
One morning this week I got up to see a message on the answering machine. Apparently it was left the afternoon before, but I missed it. I must’ve been in the back of the house where I didn’t hear it ringing. I guess when I have my hubby and two boys around, I don’t feel like I have to be jumping for the phone. Yes, I have a place to plug in the phone in the back of the house. Yes, I did recently plug one in when the electric went out not too long ago, but I actually had it off.
My phone back in the bedroom was completely capable of making a connection, but since it was turned off, I never knew someone was trying to get through. I was thinking that our relationship with God is kind of like the phone back in the bedroom.
When things are shut off on our end, He has to resort to more drastic measures to get in touch with us. I don’t know about you, but it’s always better for me when I listen to the still, small voice. I never quite like the other ways He has to use to get a hold of me.
Make sure you have your “phone” turned on in order for God to get in touch with you today!
